Designing a modern tourism website to help more visitors discover one of Alberta’s most breathtaking hidden gems.
Waterton Lakes National Park is one of Alberta’s more quietly celebrated national parks—a peaceful alternative to the crowds of Banff or Jasper. While its ‘hidden gem’ status is part of the appeal, the region needed a stronger digital presence to attract new visitors and share what makes it truly unique: its status as a dark sky preserve, an international peace park, and a home to rare native flora.
Waterton Tourism partnered with us to redesign their website to capture the park’s natural beauty, diverse experiences, and warm hospitality while making it easier for potential visitors to plan their stay.
Our Art Director, Kira, first collaborated with Waterton to define the visual direction and ensure every element of the site matched their brand identity and goals. The website needed to showcase all the richness, diversity, and wealth of activities that the area had to offer, and to help visitors hone in on the “Waterton experience” that resonated with them.
Our design lead then revamped the site with a modern, engaging design and content structure that helped visitors quickly explore everything Waterton has to offer—from hiking and wildlife viewing to local dining and lodging.
The layout was designed to support storytelling while guiding users toward the experiences most relevant to them (enhancing conversion).
We developed the site on a flexible WordPress foundation to allow for easy updates, seasonal content changes, and scalable additions. Our Director of Operations, Kent, worked directly with the Waterton team to ensure the CMS was configured in a way that made managing listings, content blocks, and imagery intuitive and efficient for their internal team.
A key feature of the new site is its interactive experience layer. We built tools to manage trail maps, local listings, and area activities, turning the website into a true trip-planning hub. Visitors can now explore hikes, dining, accommodations, and events all from one place.
The new Waterton Lakes National Park website reflects the area’s unique identity: wild, welcoming, and unforgettable. It’s easy to use for both visitors and the Waterton team, with more flexibility, more visual impact, and more reasons to explore.
With a polished and purposeful online presence, our client was able to better position itself to attract new audiences while preserving the peaceful charm that makes the park so special.
Everything from the beginning was amazing. The initial meeting, the team came researched and prepared by studying our website and the competition. The design of the website was beautiful and beyond everything I expected. Any special requests or changes (which were minimal cause everything was so well done) were handled within 48 hours. The team was highly responsive, immediately replying to emails, answering all my questions and helping facilitate the transition of the website from the previous provider. They delivered the website on time and launched it without any issues. As a client, I felt extremely well taken care of. Working with this agency was extremely easy. I would recommend you to anyone. My experience was 5 stars!
